Prajñā Philosophy is the essence of early Mahāyanā Buddhism and based on the insight of Śūnyatā. In this lecture we will read and interpret Sanskrit, Tibetan and Chinese treatises on Prajñā Philosophy and try to get the real meaning of Prajñā and Śūnyatā.

A general survey on the history and culture of Chinese Buddhism, including the introduction and development of it. And a study on the history of relations between Buddhism and the Chinese traditional religions or philosophies such as Confucianism and Taoism.

A general survey on the development of Korean Buddhism, including a study on the process of Koreanization of Buddhism.

Goryeo Buddhism was developed by four aspects: (1) succession to the Shilla Buddhism, (2) establishment of Goryeo Buddhism, (3) movement of Junghye · Bagryeon Community, (4) introduction to Linchi-Chan. This course explores such progresses of thoughts as well as the relationship between Buddhism and the Goryeo Dynasty’s various elements such as politics, society, culture, etc.

To improve the ability of translating Mādhyamika literatures written in Sanskrit, Tibetan or Chinese. And to study on the real meaning, history and sects of Mādhyamika.

Tien―Tai is a Buddhist philosophy developed in China. It is based on Saddharmapundarika-Sutra and Mādhyamika literatures. We will study on the establishment and characteristics of Tien―Tai Thought.

Students are expected to learn the history of Buddhist literatures from early Buddhism to Mahayana Buddhism. The classes are to investigate major topics relating to the formatian of important Buddhist scriptures.

Indian Buddhism is fundamental. So whatever your major may be, it is necessary for you to understand Indian Buddhism accurately. In this study we will overview the history of Indian Buddhism.

Mahāyāna Buddhism is born in India and propagated to China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Tibet and Mongol and created various thoughts. We will study on the commonness and difference of them.

Korean Buddhism was declined in Joseon dynasty. But in the area of Seon(Zen) Buddhism we can find some development. We will study the history and characteristics of Joseon Buddhism.

Vijñaptimātra can be translated Mind-onliness and was established by Asaṅga and Vasubandhu after the age of Prajñā-Mādhyamika. In Vijñaptimātra Thought, all the phenomena are explained by Mind.

The classes are to study Avamtasaka-sutra, one of the most influential Mahayana sutras. Students are expected to learn major topics such as Dhammakaya in the Sutra and its commentaries by Buddhist monks in India, China, Japan and Korea.

They say that the original teachings of Gautama Buddha is found in Pāli Scriptures. In this seminar we will interpret the Pāli Sūtras and read the books of modern Buddhist scholars on Pāli Buddhism.

There are so many religions in the world. We will compare the thought and history of Buddhism with the other religions.

In ethical point of view, we will study on the problem of evil and good in primitive Buddhism, the function of karma in Abhidharma Buddhism and the spirit of Bodhisattva in Mahāyāna Buddhism.

In this study we will apply Buddhist ethics to the problems of discriminations and struggles between peoples in modern society.

You can use philological or historical or philosophical or soteriological methods in studying Buddhism. If it is needed, you can explore new methodology.

We will diagnose the cause of ecological crisis and explore the solution and try to establish a theory of Buddhist ecology.

Many scholars in India interpreted poems that were 30kinds of gāthā that Vasubandhu wrote at his old days, and Chinese thinkers published 10volumes of『Vidyā-mātra-siddhi-siāstra』to create Fa-hsing sect. The study interpreted and investigated text of『Vidyā-mātra-siddhi-siāstra』to help understand Vijńāpti-mātratā philosophy.

Four noble truth, Three universal truth, Dependent origination and Emptiness are the core tenets of Buddhism. In this lecture we will reinterpret various theories of other sciences using theses tenets, and illuminate political, economic, cultural and social problems of our society, and try to find a Buddhist way of solving these problems.

Buddha's Teachings have been transmitted as many texts written in various classical Asian languages like Sanskrit, Pāli, Chinese and Tibetan etc..
